Printer Write For Us
A printer is a device that accepts text and graphics output from a computer and transfers the information to paper, usually sheets of standard 8.5 x 11 inch size. Printers vary in size, speed, complexity and cost. Generally, more expensive printers are used for more frequent printing or high-resolution color printing.
PC printers can be differentiated into impact and non-impact printers. Early impact printing machines worked like an automatic typewriter, with a key leaving an ink imprint on the paper for each character printed. The dot matrix printer, an impact printer that strokes paper line by line, was a popular and inexpensive option.
The most popular non-impact printers are the inkjet printer and the laser printer. The inkjet sprays ink from an ink cartridge at a very close distance from the passing paper, while the laser printer uses a laser beam reflected from a mirror to draw ink (called toner) onto selected areas of the paper as a blade rolls on a drum. .
Different Types of Printers
There are many different printer manufacturers today including Canon, Epson, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox and Lexmark and many others. There are also several types of printers to choose from, which we’ll look at in more detail below.
Inkjet printers create a digital image by spraying ink onto paper. These are the most common types of home printers.
Laser printers create high-quality prints by passing a high-speed laser beam across a negatively charged drum to define an image. Color laser printers are most commonly found in professional environments.
New Printing Technology
3D printers are a relatively new printing technology. 3D printing involves creating a physical object from a digital file. Material is added layer by layer until the print job is completed and the object is finished.
Thermal printers create an image on paper by passing paper with a thermochromic coating over a printhead consisting of electrically heated elements, creating an image in the area where the heated coating turns black. A dye-sublimation printer is a form of thermal printing technology that uses heat to transfer dyes to materials.
All-in-one printers are multifunctional devices that combine printing with other technologies such as photocopiers, scanners and/or faxes.
LED printers are similar to laser printers, but use a series of light-emitting diodes in the print head instead of a laser.
Photo printers are similar to inkjet printers, but are specifically designed to print high-quality photos, which require a lot of ink and special paper to keep the ink from smudging.
Types of Older Printers
There are some types of first generation printers that are obsolete and rarely used today:
Dot Matrix Printer: Dot matrix printing is an older impact printing technology for text documents that hits the paper line by line. Dot matrix printers offer very basic print quality.
Line printer: A line printer prints a single line of text at a time. Although an older form of printing, line printers are still used today.
Features to look for in a Printer
The four printer qualities that users are most interested in are:
Color: Most modern printers offer color printing. However, you can also set printing in black and white. Color printers are more expensive to operate because they use two ink cartridges (one color and one black) or toner that must be replaced after printing a certain number of pages.
Resolution: Printer resolution (the sharpness of text and images on paper) is usually measured in dots per inch (dpi). Most inexpensive printers offer sufficient resolution for most purposes: 600 dpi.
Speed – If a user prints a lot, print speed is an important feature. Inexpensive printers only print 3 to 6 sheets per minute. However, higher print speeds are an option with a more sophisticated and expensive printer.
Memory: Most printers have a small amount of memory, typically 2 to 16 megabytes, which can be expanded by the user. When printing pages with large images, it is useful and faster to have more memory than the minimum.
